The Big Reveal: Tattoo Edition

Morning all!

So it's the morning after, I've got one brand new tattoo, one great big hangover and one blog post to write.

So basically, the world is ending. but here goes.

I wasn't nervous prior to my appointment, given my owl was so excruciating I figured I could get through anything.

PMA was high on the drive down... I had tunes, tea and sunshine.

My playlist included The Cure, Eminem, Glen Campbell, Elton John, Brand New, Britney Spears, Phil Collins, The Beatles and Michael Jackson. Weirdest combination ever. By weirdest, I mean the best.

I heard Mitch was running late, so I stopped for a muffin and a coffee. I hate muffins and I don't drink coffee. I put a piece of muffin in my mouth, gagged, and threw it out. The coffee was weak and it got dumped in favour of two of the best rice paper rolls I've ever eaten.

The morning could have gone downhill here. Much like the one I'm having today. When Mrs Woog's mum starts buying rounds of martinis, you know you're in for some trouble.

Veggie Baby came for a trip. She was unimpressed.

This was captain birdy swallow ready to go.

That poor girl in front of me was getting her ribs tattooed. I told her she could chat to me if she needed to take her mind off the pain. She ended up quitting halfway through and leaving her ribs very obviously unfinished.

The outline wasn't pleasant, I did a lot of biting my fingers. It was miles better than my poor owl though. That was three hours of pure hell. I chewed my fingers right off my hands.

I figured it would be over soon, so I just breathed and chatted and tweeted.

By the time it came to the colouring I was so in the zone. While it hurt, it was bearable and I was actually enjoying it. I was pleased that it was so doable. And boy, do I love the sound of a tattoo gun.

And here he/she is. A beautiful birdie. I love him/her.

And now if you don't mind, I'm going to crawl into a hole and die.

xx

  2. that is just gorgeous!!

i liken the sound of a tatt gun to that of a dentists drill - ugh lol

i feel for the girl getting her ribs done, very very painful. i have NO pain tolerance and so i have NO idea why i am contemplating a second tatt!

  5. I love a swallow tattoo.  Love.  The sound of the tattoo gun is like a siren song isn't it. As for the ribs, I have a big piece planned for there, as I'm just not sure how accommodating my employers would be of it on my arm.  But I am worried about the pain there.  Having said that, once it gets going and I'm in the zone, who knows.
Hope you're feeling not so sore soon.

  7. Oh I love it!

I showed Mr Black that picture of you in the chair yesterday when you instragrammed it and asked him how old he thought you were. He said 24!
Ouch she really gave up? You know....my next one was going to be on my ribs. You're making me question it. But then when I got my foot one a guy came in talking about how his friend got one on their foot a couple of days before and it was the most painful thing they had ever gone through. I was freaking majorly listening to this guy waffle on about it for an hour while I waited for my turn. Then it turned out to be not so bad.

I feel bad for her to just up and leave. Was it a large tattoo? She is going to regret leaving. Yeah it might hurt but I would hate to look down at an unfinished tatt for the rest of my life.

  10. Nice tatt! Can't believe that poor girl gave up halfway through hers, althought I'd always heard that ribs can be one of the most painful places to get a tattoo. My first one is now 17 years old and Ive always been tempted to get another one..

  11. Beautiful. I love the sound of a tattoo gun too, and getting into the 'zone' is awesome. I put headphones in, clear the mind and breathe :-)

  12. From personal experience I can tell you all the ribs is INCREDIBLY painful. WAY more so than the foot. As the needle rolls over each rib and into the dent it is HELL. I ended up having to stop halfway as well as after a while the whole area becomes so tender its just scraping a fork over an open wound. But I made a follow up appointment, and absolutely dreaded it! It ended up not being anywhere near as bad coz I used Emla cream. Very expensive but VERY worth it. Love your swallow Veggie Mama! I think hes a boy and he deserves a name!

  13. It takes a while, but once you're there it's good. Once you're through to the other side and you're still being tattooed is the worst thing in all humanity.

  14. Yep, I'm leaving my ribs alone! 17 years is too long x

  15. Thank you, that's a lovely thing to say! I am indeed very fussy. I think I'm done, though :-)

  16. It wasn't large, but ribs suck. She was not coping! Totally understandable.

  17. I'm lucky I don't have to worry about my employers! Creativity is encouraged at my work. There's no way in hell I'd get a rib tattoo, let alone a big one!!

  18. Hahaha mine is pretty good, but tattoos are shit to get :-)

  19. I love Veggie Baby's face! Beautiful tattoo Stacey, just beautiful.

You've got guts, I've thought about it but unless I could self-medicate to the eyeballs I am not sure I could stand the pain. Although, I do have a weird relationship with my dentist and don't mind drilling or needles at all...

  25. Aw! I hope your hangover wasn't too bad. Lychee martinis are deliciously evil!

I love your tattoo! You're much braver than I. I have a small line drawing I did of a lily on my right hip and that is as brave as I've been!

  26. Either brave or stupid!! And the lychee martini definitely was delicious...
