The Big Reveal: Tattoo Edition

Morning all!

So it's the morning after, I've got one brand new tattoo, one great big hangover and one blog post to write.

So basically, the world is ending. but here goes.

I wasn't nervous prior to my appointment, given my owl was so excruciating I figured I could get through anything.

PMA was high on the drive down... I had tunes, tea and sunshine.

My playlist included The Cure, Eminem, Glen Campbell, Elton John, Brand New, Britney Spears, Phil Collins, The Beatles and Michael Jackson. Weirdest combination ever. By weirdest, I mean the best.

I heard Mitch was running late, so I stopped for a muffin and a coffee. I hate muffins and I don't drink coffee. I put a piece of muffin in my mouth, gagged, and threw it out. The coffee was weak and it got dumped in favour of two of the best rice paper rolls I've ever eaten.

The morning could have gone downhill here. Much like the one I'm having today. When Mrs Woog's mum starts buying rounds of martinis, you know you're in for some trouble.

Veggie Baby came for a trip. She was unimpressed.

This was captain birdy swallow ready to go.

That poor girl in front of me was getting her ribs tattooed. I told her she could chat to me if she needed to take her mind off the pain. She ended up quitting halfway through and leaving her ribs very obviously unfinished.

The outline wasn't pleasant, I did a lot of biting my fingers. It was miles better than my poor owl though. That was three hours of pure hell. I chewed my fingers right off my hands.

I figured it would be over soon, so I just breathed and chatted and tweeted.

By the time it came to the colouring I was so in the zone. While it hurt, it was bearable and I was actually enjoying it. I was pleased that it was so doable. And boy, do I love the sound of a tattoo gun.

And here he/she is. A beautiful birdie. I love him/her.

And now if you don't mind, I'm going to crawl into a hole and die.

I'll show you mine if you show me yours: the tattoo edition.

Morning, folks!

Today I'm going to be tattooed. This is both bogus and sad*.

Tattoos are amazing and fun to have, but big ones hurt. Like rusty spikes up the fingernails hurt. Like bleach in the eyeballs hurt.

So, I'm nosy. And I want to be entertained while under the gun, so I'm asking you to link me to your own tattoos... I know you've got 'em. They ain't just for sailors, bikers and criminals no more. Though some of you are!

Post a pic on my Facebook page, or a link in the comments of this post. Tell me why you got them... tell me did they hurt?

And as part of the deal, I'll show you mine. Well, one of them.

This is Miss Alison Manners of Black Throne Tattoo in Brisbane.

She is by far and away my favourite tattoist. She is imaginative, creative, professional, funny, kind, excellent at what she does and is super-fast. She also has a thing for animals and an adorable English accent.

She also has a nine-month waiting list, so don't get too excited!

I told her I wanted an owl. A lovely, feminine owl. That was it.

I turned up on the day to find she had drawn me this.

It was perfect.

I didn't change a single thing, and it was going to be on my arm forever, so I was ready to be critical.

I've had her for a few months now, and I still adore it. I'm sure I always will.

The teacup! I never even mentioned tea! Girl is either psychic or some sort of cyborg from the future.

So today I'm off to see Mitch 13 from Green Lotus Tattoo in Melbourne, who is doing a guest spot in Brisbane.

I'mma keep what I'm getting quiet, and will show you tomorrow.

For now, go forth and link! I can't wait to see what y'all have got and hear the stories behind them.

*but I still know how to party. Name that movie.
