Chocolate-blueberry-chocolate-chip scones

Recently my local newspaper wrote a story on me, and the photographer paid us a visit at home to catch us in action.

Given I've got a vague idea now about styling for food shots, I was ready and prepared with cute props (including cute baby) and goodness knows what else. Except something to actually cook! I had been so busy it just didn't get factored into my day.

Enter self-raising flour. I popped some in a bowl and the photographer encouraged us to get messy. Which we did with gay abandon. However, when he left we still had all this flour all over everything, and it was a shame to waste it! So I added (to roughly two cups of flour)

1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/4 cup butter (rubbed into flour mixture)
1/4 cup sugar
a handful of frozen blueberries
a handful of chocolate chips
a pinch of salt
and enough milk to make a reasonably stiff scone dough.

This probably isn't a recipe for scone first-timers, as that's as specific as I'm getting!

I patted out the dough and cut circles, placing them on a greased tray quite close together. 20 minutes in a super-super hot oven (I turn it up as high as it will go, helps them rise fast and well) and although I've never made them before and made it up as I went along, they were GOOD! Especially with chocolate topping because I didn't think butter would work, or jam, and I had no cream. But if I did, I would have added it with the chocolate topping!

Go forth and chocolateify. You won't regret it.
