Stuff I forgot about having a newborn

um, how little they are.

♥ how much breastfeeding hurts at the start.

♥ and how hungry it makes you.

♥ how sad you feel when they have wind pain and there's not much you can do about it.

♥ how they smell.

♥ how tiny all their paraphernalia is.

♥ how often they poop!

♥ how surprisingly strong they are.

♥ how cute it is when they smile in their sleep.

♥ how much they sleep.

♥ how little they sleep.

♥ how broken your own sleep is.

how much they like to be held.

♥ how much you like to hold them.

♥ how adorable they are.

♥ how they bring out the big old softie side in people.

♥ how much the baby blues suck.

♥ how you melt when you see your husband hold them gently.

♥ how much you wish everyone could feel these feelings.

♥ how amazed you are at how the hell they fit in your abdomen.

♥ how much you love them.

xx

PS thanks to Cotton On Kids for the outfit.

What do you remember?

  1. I know!!! To all of them. My 2nd is 10 months now and it kills me that she is not that little newborn anymore. It goes too quick.

  2. Oh, I'm a sucker for baby feet - she's divine!
My 2nd child is now 11 months old. He'll be our last, so I have tried to savour every single moment on his babyhood and take note of every little thing that is so precious during the fleeting tiny-baby days. He was 10 pound at birth though, so I almost feel like I didn't have much of a 'newborn' stage with him to some degree.
Being a Mother truly is a wonderful gift. And you've summed up those good & bad emotions that come with it here in this post.
    JUST.LOVELY!

  6. Oh this is so lovely. I can't wait to do it all over again. I'd add, how far and wide their vomit can spray. And how you can love them so much it hurts. x

  16. Oh, I can't wait for #2. I was so strung out with doing things 'right' the first time round I think I forgot to cherish the moments. I'm loving the interaction with my now 9 month old, but I sometimes wish I could go back and smell the newborn baby she was again.

  20. I've heard people are way more chill the second time! I was pretty zen the first time, but Abby was such an easy baby. This one is even easier, so I'm super-grateful. Smelling that newborn head daily!

  23. I never liked it on other babies... then I had my own and knew what everyone was raving about :)

Meanwhile, i had a brother who smelled like bacon. Maybe that's why I didn't like it!

    Hope you're feeling well <3
