Kid Food: Snacks

Breakfasts I can do. Dinners I can do. Coming up with different snacks all the time? Mmmm not so good! Thank goodness kids like repetition, can't remember what they ate from one day to the next, and are available for trying new foods at different mealtimes. I tend to stick to what I know she'll enjoy :)

Saos never fail. Vegemite never fails.

Peaches were back from when the world was warrrrrrmmmmm.

Apple + oatmeal cookies, dried apple, fig and organic puffed rice from the bulk bins at my health food store.

Strawberries and Animal Crackers. She snarfed the animals before I could get a chance to photograph them!
Avocado on wholegrain tortilla. Always a winner.

Organic corn chips, grissini and mandarin. Loved it all.

What do you guys do for snacks? I've got about five posts worth, but I still feel like I could do with some more ideas!

Meanwhile, all my kid food recipes are here or click on the "kid food" tab in the sidebar :)

  1. Hummus with whole wheat pita wedges and/or carrots, broccoli "trees"; peanut or almond butter on anything; puffed 'lentil chips' (check health food store. these are delicious!)

  3. Baby C loves puffed corn...I give him a whole heap and he sorts it and eats it and sorts it and eats it.
He also loves Turkish dried apricots.
And I generally try to bake up some carrot muffins...he loves those and they are about the only "veggies" I can get him to eat!
Here is the recipe for the muffins.

  4. I also struggle to think of snack foods, but my toddler doesn't seem to complain if it's the same things over and over! Dried apple and apricot, rice crackers, cheese sticks for those who eat dairy, and savoury pancakes! It's one of the few ways I can get her to eat veggies, I just remove most of the sugar from my regular pancake batter, add finely grated carrot and zucchini, and then a bit of cheese melted on top. Yummo!

  6. I agree - snacks are tricky! My toddler loves dried apricots, gingerbread babies, sultanas, fruit, crackers and I also discovered a great veggie pikelet recipe which I'll be posting soon. Thanks for the great ideas, I love the organic corn chips and avocado on wholemeal tortilla. A xx

  7. Mini muffins, tiny scones, corn thins, rice crackers, mini corn fritters, fresh fruit, cheese cubes, carrot sticks dipped in hummus or cream cheese, yoghurt, fruit smoothies. I also make a "trail mix" with soy crisps, pretzels, bite sized shredded wheat, cheerios, banana chips, craisins, dried apricots and sultanas.

  8. Snacks at our place are boring: fruit toast, fruit, yoghurt, veggies/crackers with dip and if I'm feeling nice maybe pikelets. I will enjoy reading your snacky posts! x

  9. Oh the cookies are awesome! Soft and cakey and delicious. I wish Abby would eat cheese, I have to sneak it in things. And she's still too young for nuts as a snack, but I'm not! muahahahahahaa

  10. Abby's puffed anything ends up all over the floor! Drives me mad. How good are apricots? we're a huge fan of dried fruit here. And carrot muffins are such a good idea. I've made savoury ones and banana ones, but carrot is brilliant :)

  12. I think I snuck a gingerbread baby in the last post! They're so handy, huh. And we've had some interesting nappy events after an overload of sultanas and dried fruit. Holy cow!

  13. Yum, can I come to your house?! Fruit smoothies are a huge hit here too... if only she could drink out of a cup properly haha. I usually give her a spoon and she's a happy little vegemite :)

  14. Do you put as much butter on your fruit toast as I do on mine? Oh man... oh man.

  15. Ha ha - I hear ya on the interesting nappy events, I had one yesterday morning - took me an hour to recover. Too much kiwi, strawberries and dried apricots - was super ;) x

  17. Thanks for stopping by and linking up to Snacktime Saturday. I keep hearing that kids love Vegemite, I'm not sure how available it is in the stores around here. I'll have to be on the look out.
