From now on, I'm just gonna direct them to these!
I always have meal plans every week, whether I sit down and do them properly or scribble them on a sheet of paper somewhere. I like to choose a cookbook, magazine, website, iPhone app or whatever else, and choose up to five dinners I want to try. Sometimes I just get ideas, rather than five specific recipes. I also add whatever I know I've got in the fridge I want to use up. I choose five because sometimes Veggie Dad grabs something on the way home from football training, or we're not home on a weekend night or whatever. Five seems to work for us.
I also choose one sweet extra to make on a Sunday for Veggie Dad's lunchbox. It's always a bit of fun to have a homemade goodie in there than the usual muesli bar-chips-cheese and crackers combo.

Do you meal plan? What are your favourite places to get ideas?
I'm a planner! Surprised? I don't like waste and also need to be on the ball during the week. Weekends are a bit more fluid - if we're home, Mr Styling You likes to impersonate Jamie Oliver!
ReplyDeleteI reckon you might know my answer!!! I get lots of inspiration from foodie blogs. Always have a huge list of recipes I want to try.
ReplyDeleteI NEED to meal plan, but I'm hopeless. I've been saying 'I need to meal plan' for as long as I"ve been having hot dinners and so far... no planning. x
ReplyDeleteSince Master O has arrived I now menu plan. I'm a bit of a control freak and with two kiddies, life is pretty hectic now, so meal planning helps. I always MEAN to do it on a Friday or a Saturday so that I can get the majority of things from the Farmer's Markets, but generally it ends up being Monday morning when the little Miss is in her one day of childcare and I need to go and get the groceries whilst I am one child down! I mostly find inspiratoion from blogs, but also from taste.com.au and cookbooks/magazines when i have the time... I love new inspiration :)
ReplyDeleteI was very impressed with his kitchen skills last time I was over! I figured you were a planner... I remember you saying you were having pesto pasta on a Sunday, and it was only Thursday. It's so handy.
ReplyDeletehaha yeah, I had an inkling! Food blogs make me drool, their photos are so good. And I like when they tell me whether something is worth my while or not. I've made a lot of things from books that were pretty so-so.
ReplyDeleteI get scared at the supermarket when I don't plan. Like what if I miss something? and it's the ONE thing I need? All of a sudden I'm hyperventilating in aisle 2.
ReplyDeleteI love inspiration too... I've got over a thousand recipes saved from random websites I used to look at. Have you tried food.com? it's excellent.
ReplyDeletethis post is perfect timing for me. Im just becoming vegetarian and thinking, oh gosh what do I eat. Im having to relearn my favourite recipes and how to make them without meat, at the same time learn all new recipes. I think ill have to be a meal planner, least till I get more go to recipes down pat
ReplyDeleteHaha great timing indeed! I'll be doing these weekly, so make sure you check back if you need some inspiration. I'll be posting links to recipes as well, so that might help. I hope you enjoy my blog and good luck! Let me know if you have any requests or questions :)
